Who We Are and What We Stand For

We have an amazing possibility. It’s called Nova Scotia

-Danny Graham, oneNS Coalition member

The economic challenges Nova Scotia faces are complex, long standing, and have been pointed out repeatedly by economic panels over the last 20 years. Unfortunately, better times have not materialized.

If the solutions were easy we would have found them by now.  What we do know for certain is that change is the only road to a better future. And that change will force each and every one of us to think and act differently every single day.  Also for certain, we cannot expect to solve our problems over night and we cannot expect anyone else to solve them for us. Just as they took years to develop, they will take years to unravel. Considering the starting line, the process of economic renewal will be prolonged and at times painful.

When you change the way you look at things,
the things you look at change.

– Hope Blooms

Whether the pace of Nova Scotia’s evolution is too fast or too slow, or you agree or disagree with the direction, something has shifted and change is in the air. We must continue to welcome all voices to the conversation and fan the flames of action wherever they have been lit.

The oneNS Coalition was formed to develop a 10 year action plan for all sectors to work together to move forward the vision and goals set out in the oneNS Commission report. The coalition brings together Nova Scotian leaders from across the province and many sectors. Members are citizens who have volunteered to contribute their energy to addressing the challenges we face and to building a plan that ensures action happens this time round.

The oneNS Coalition isn’t starting from scratch. Nova Scotians have contributed substantially to get us to where we are. We are building on the work of the earlier oneNS Commission, chaired by Ray Ivany. We also have many things going for us. We are a small province, but we have tremendous assets – most notably, the capabilities of our people and our spirit and determination to make this place, our place, the best place in the world to start and grow a business, live and work, and raise a family.

We are a dynamic and creative province, with skilled and ambitious people and an incomparable entrepreneurial spirit. At our best, we are welcoming of newcomers, supportive of our disadvantaged citizens, committed to our youth, and champions of our entrepreneurs and businesses. We believe in education, skills and innovation, and we compete and win globally. We have a shared commitment to investing in our people and growing our economy to build a progressive, innovative, and change-oriented society that hasn’t lost sight of its values.

Nova Scotia, we are more than capable of taking bold measures and risks, and of coming together as one, single, unified, self-reliant, unstoppable community working hand-in-hand to build a better tomorrow.
