Current Situation
In 2022, there were 957 Nova Scotia business establishments participating in international merchandise trade, up from 930 establishments in the baseline year of 2012. The number of exporting establishments has steadily increased over the past few years, although the number of exporters declined during 2020 and 2022. Despite this recent progress, the gains have not been sufficient or sustained enough to put Nova Scotia on the path to achieving this goal. Currently, this indicator is not on track to meet the target of 1,395 firms participating in export trade.

What This Means
This means that a slightly higher number of Nova Scotia businesses have looked to foreign markets to sell their products. However, it is not clear if this is representative of a longer-term trend, as the data have fluctuated slightly over the available period, without a clear direction.
